Assessment Objctives

The candidate will be expected to:

  • Demonstrate a clear and coherent understanding of the designated debate topics.These debate topics embody a range of current affairs of global importance and issues of significance to Singapore and society at large.

  • Demonstrate a broad understanding of interconnected areas within the debate topic.

  • Recognise and analyse the multidisciplinary connections in the debate topic, showing an awareness of their significance and the implications for the individual and society.

  • Formulate coherent responses backed by relevant and valid arguments extrapolated from representative sources.

  • Collaborate and strategise in order to plan, organise and show development of ideas as a team.

  • Demonstrate effective communication and proficient use of language.

This includes the ability to:
1. Speak clearly in Standard English
2. Comprehend, interpret and apply a range of subject matter on the designated topic
3. Identify, infer, summarise and evaluate information
4. Synthesise, summarise and organise information and organise information.

Assessment Description

• Students form teams of 4.

• The respective EL Teachers will allocate the Debate Topics and the relevant Proposition/Opposition Teams.

• Upper Sec Debate Topics will encompass Global Issues whilst the Lower Sec Debate Topics will focus more on Local/National Issues.

• The CA Teacher I/Cs & Pre-selected School Debaters will adjudicate the debates in accordance to the set-schedule.
